More Political Games: Commentary on the Federal Government Shutdown

I’m taking a step away from my usual gun rights post to comment on some of the obscene games being played in the federal government shutdown.

As this shutdown has progressed, the executive branch has made it plain that rather than dealing with the legislative branch in and of its own right, it is once again going to throw a three-year-old temper tantrum so bad that the worst kid couldn’t even come close to competing with it. Rather than accepting that the people have spoken and stated firmly that they want no more Obamacare as a majority, the executive branch has taken it upon itself to play games with the American people.

There’s a point where you can push a good person too far. Our veterans, who not only laid their lives on the line during our country’s wars, have been barred from the monument they and other Americans have paid for out of their own wallets, after having their taxes removed and sent straight to the IRS, of course. At the same time, an amnesty rally for illegal immigrants is allowed as the National Mall, which is paid for by our tax dollars, is reopened for that event but not the general citizenry.

Don’t get me wrong, this country was founded on immigration – LEGAL immigration. My great-grandparents immigrated at the turn of the last century from Sweden, just to have their son, my mom’s uncle Lefty, die in the Pacific front on the sands of Iwo Jima. But those decedents of LEGAL immigrants can’t see the memorial paid for by the American people without using tax dollars while illegal immigrants, who often receive my tax dollars in the form of federal welfare assistance, are allowed on the National Mall my tax dollars paid for??!!

There are a few claiming this is their first amendment right. I’m sorry, but a right is something enjoyed by a LEGAL CITIZEN or RESIDENT of a country, not someone who is breaking the law! We take the second amendment rights away from dangerous felons when they break the law, why would an ILLEGAL immigrant have a right to free speech at the cost of my tax dollars!!

To quote a dear friend of mine, “I am incensed (no, I do not smell of perfume)!” National parks are being re-opened in several states, with those states footing the bill. But are those late tax filers allowed to wait until after the shutdown is resolved to pay those taxes? No! Are your tax deductions still going to the government that is playing games and refusing to bend to the will of the people that hired them? YES!

I actually made the mistake of trying to contact my Democratic senator’s office while the shutdown is in effect. Her website and office is closed until this is resolved. But at the same time, Claire McCaskill is still encouraging people on her Facebook page to sign petitions encouraging compromise! So I guess she’s just representing the liberals, not most of Southwest Missouri.

As the cries of the patriots who paid for our freedom in blood rang out, “No taxation without representation!” If you are in any position to do so, I would highly encourage you to withhold your withholdings, to deny the government that is denying us. Anyone receiving a regular paycheck can do this by increasing your deductions significantly, just go into your HR or Payroll department and take 5 minutes to fill out the form. Take that money and set it aside for when the games are done. If you can’t do this, since many of the states are picking up a lot of the bill for the federal government’s games, every state government that represents an honorable, valiant and free people should set up a fund for these withholdings, and when the feds stop playing games with our tax dollars, THEN and ONLY THEN, can they have them back.

This is my line in the sand. This is my challenge to all free and patriotic Americans, to vote with your wallet and take a stand before our liberties are completely lost.

Next week, we’ll return you to your regularly scheduled, gun freedom posts. Until then, do something positive about this shut down. Call your governor’s or legislator’s office and demand a fund to hold federal withholdings until the federal government decides to put on their big girl panties and deal with it already. Talk about it with your co-workers. Tell them how it’s wrong that they’re still taxing us while not representing us. Be a patriot.
